Wampum Coding Challenge
The students had the challenging opportunity to make a wampum belt with colored beads. First they had to come up with a sentence about wampum belts, then decide how they would color code the words in their sentence. Each colored bead chosen by the students represented either vowels, consonants or spaces in between words. Once complete with the beading process, the students swapped belts and tried to decode. They had time to figure out message without the help of clues. They could figure what color bead represented vowels and spaces then worked from there. Clues were necessary for some and others worked well had cracking their friend wampum code.
The Gingerbread Girl production
We saw a little play production put together by the 1/2/3rd grade class call the Gingerbread Girl. The young ones did a fabulous job! It really got our class excited to put together our own show (hopefully) this school year. After the play, we had the opportunity to decorate our own gingerbread men before a crazy, cookie buzzed game of Squash Banana tag, this weeks choice field game by the kids.
Leadership and Weaving elective
The branch looms are complete! The kids really enjoyed this craft that was 100% handmade! It’s nice to have quiet, creative time, especially when listening to a book read aloud…we have just a few more chapters to enjoy from Ronia, the Robbers Daughter.
We had a great class discussion on the Winter Solstice and a few ways to honor and celebrate the suns return as well as adding a poem on the solstice in their journals.
I hope you all have a wonderful and restful winter break. Please stay safe and cozy and have fun being as adventurous as possible.
Happy new year, friends.
Just a little peek into our classroom. “What brings you Joy?” banner was fun to decorate this past week.
