December 7-11
We welcomed some glorious rain this past weekend making it very damp and cool. The temperatures have dropped a bit so please please, make sure your child has extra layers to rely on if needed. Their cubbies could/should be packed with items to keep them warm and/or dry.
Another fun week! We had the upper campus and Willows for recess time and the class has a lot of fun playing soccer, cops and robbers (a game they made up?), playing friendly neighbor in the willows as well as building forts in their free time.
Math
The class started the week with reviewing the different types of angles: Acute, Right, Obtuse (straight, reflex). An Intro to using protractors for measuring angles followed. This was a fun and tricky lesson. This led to Triangles. The class partnered up for an activity called Triangle sort. Each pair received pics of different triangles and recording sheets. The students were asked to sort into 2 categories, and to explain criteria for category. Then they were asked to sort triangles into 3 categories, as well as explain criteria for those.

The partners compared angle and side relationships too.
Social Studies
The class completed their Native American region brochures!! On Wednesday and Thursday the students presented their brochures in front of the class. They did so great! The students that watched the presentations practiced taking notes during and after of what they’ve gathered about each region.
Languagr Arts
Spelling quiz #2 Again, this week 12 words were compiled from a list Erica gathered from recent weeks before…words kids ask how to spell during penpal writing, math class and for the Native American region lesson. A super fun way the kids practiced using the spelling words, was to write 13 collective creative (and silly!) stories.
Each person starts a story, by writing one sentence (use one word from the list)
Cross out the word you use.
After the second person, fold paper so only the last sentence written is showing. Can not peek back at the story.
Pass around until each word is used.
Read stories.
Laugh super hard at all the unique and hilarious stories they created together. They’re so excited to do this project again soon. It was a hit!
Art and Leadership
A winter project was enjoyed by all as the kids created portraits of polar bears in a snowy landscape using white chalk on black paper, white colored pencils to draw elaborate snowflakes, as well as enjoyed splattering a bit of white tempera paint because it’s fun to splatter paint! Ha!
We decided what that first All School Spirit Day: Sports Day! We also decided on a day: Friday, January 8th, 2021. Flyers were created and will be distributed and displayed around campus and given to each student to take home after the holidays.
Hopes Closet
Tomorrow is the last day to bring in items to donate (please find email for all details!) Thank you to those who have already donated. The kids will organize items during class time.
