JANUARY 2021
Hi friends and family! Happiest of New Years to you all.
I apologize for not posting since the return from winter break! It’s been quite a ride since we’ve started and this week Erica and I are busy with evaluations, so again, I’m sorry for not keeping up with the blog. I’m happy to report we are staying positive, riding the waves as they come as everything seems to be better when we are all together. Here’s a very quick welcome back post!
Our week on Zoom was very successful. The kids remembered good virtual class etiquette making our short time together efficient and enjoyable. We appreciate everyone being flexible, staying positive, attending our scheduled classes and doing their best on packet work.
We enjoyed class outside as much as we could before it started raining rivers. We are thankful for the gym as our class space as it provides lots and lots of safe space for the kids.
So far this month:
We’ve talked about the life of Martin Luther King Jr., through a colorful story and a collective poster where each student shared one of their dreams for humanity or the world.
We’ve begun a study on maps: including longitude and latitude, and locating things using coordinates. Each student is creating their own map of “Planet Orchard”.
We’ve started lovely vision boards for this new year. The kids created an art piece to be used as a tool to inspire them and to be used as positive reminders and affirmations.
We conquered two spelling lists, working on our third (for 2021) and enjoyed writing short stories with the spelling words to help practice.
Area and Perimeter! Using cheez-its as well as games, the students have learned how to find area and perimeter of different quadrilaterals. This will lead us into our study on multiplication!! Yay!!
Class bond continues to stay solid as proper water/mud play has officially started! Building damns, controlling waterways and then breaking the damns to watch all the water flow back towards the pick up/drop off area. Soccer is always a hit as well. In the gym for rainy recesses, board games, free drawing, reading to self and knitting/crocheting has all been enjoyed.
Tomorrow we will enjoy a restorative yoga class and take advantage on the hardwood floors and rugs in gym. Doesn’t a nice Savasana sounds great right about now?
Enjoy the few pictures I’ve taken and then it’s back to evaluations! Ha!
Be well, warm and cozy.
