The week plus before Thanksgiving
The rains came, just in time to shake things up and stir a bit of adventure for our class.
Gratitude was the theme for the week, and we were super thankful to have the big space in the gym to give us a spacious environment to continue our school work.
Lots of write ups about what they’re thankful for at school, outside of school, as well as a personal strength they were thankful for. In art class they collectively created a big banner that says ‘We are grateful’.
The kids enjoyed learning a new game called, Birdie on a Perch. They picked their own partners. One partner as the birdie and the other was the perch. The Birdie must be able to get on perch and off the ground. With creativity and communication the kids came up with many ways to get off the ground. Last birdie on the perch wins!
In math the kids worked on their decimal packets and geometry packets. Addition fact quizzes were “enjoyed” as well!
The kids really likes working on their coordinate grids. They located plot points to find the hidden picture as well as created their own code busters to share with friends.
Besides writing about Gratitude, the kids wrote to their pen pals on campus and played ‘Use ‘em Up!’ with a partner. The kids had to come up with as many words as they could using all the letters from the alphabet. The opponent with the most points win!
Many of these fun activities from this week went home for Thanksgiving break, I hope you all had a chance to enjoy them, if not I hope you all will soon.
We had Art classes in the gym this week due to the wet conditions. We were able to free paint to make painted paper for collaging. The kids made sweet multimedia collages of a bird on a branch with the painted paper (they each made a warm, cool and free choice using tempera paint), glued on a watercolor background with details added with fine tip sharpie.
The few days before break the kids enjoyed making personal sized, homemade apple pies, herb bundles to take home, they made sweet Wu-Fus for loved ones, worked on their cardboard looms, enjoyed books on gratitude such as The Last Stop on Market Street.
Oooh!! One last thing! The kids and I had two unofficial Student Council Meetings discussing Spirit days for the whole school to celebrate and needs for support on campus. The kids wrote up a proposal and put it in Manila’s mailbox! Maybe she’ll receive it after the break. We’ll keep you posted!
