Fifth week
It was so hot on campus! We are thankful for our swimming pool to give us a refreshing break from the heat. The kids love playing Marco Polo, creating a whole pool whirlpool by swimming around the edge in one direction as a team, and now doing laps back and forth, about 47 times each.
Language Arts:
Their creative writing stories are almost complete! Finishing touches, editing and final drafts almost done.
Math:
We played restaurant where the kids took turns taking big dining orders from old menus. The kids practiced adding numbers with decimal points and learned how to move the decimal point over a column to figure out a 10% tip. Math packets were also given to each student for independent study.
Science:
Pollinators. The students were asked to illustrate their own pollinating creature and then build it using an array of art supplies and reusable materials. ***If your child brought home a cool looking, insect like sculpture, can they please bring it back to present in class tomorrow?! A few accidentally went home on Thursday! Thank you!
Art:
Lots of Art was made in class this past week as well. Watercolors were introduced in art class on Wednesday and painted with acrylics on Friday. They enjoyed painting on their stones to soon become a beautiful border around our flower beds in front of gym. The rocks should be arrange this week ahead and will take pictures when it does. The students also potted up their succulents for our class potted garden. Before planting took place, the kids were able to paint a little on their own terra cotta pots. Once the weather turns, we’ll move our garden indoors. Thank you to those who donated all we needed to make this project come true! It’s going to be sweet watching these plants grow.
Sewing:
Our redwood plushies are almost complete! (A few have been completed and they are looking amazing!) I want to make one too!
Next up in textile arts: making our own looms for weaving. I can’t wait!
Everything in between:
Recess in the Willows, animal care twice a week, an all school earthquake drill, time in the garden with Jane, Reading books with Erica, yoga and chi gong with me....our days are rich and well rounded.
🚘🚌🚗🚙Drive for schools raffle tickets!! If you need more tickets to sell, Manila can get them to you. Thank you, thank you to those who have already turned stubs in. Do you need anymore?
