3rd and 4th week

We had yet another full and hot week at school! Thank goodness for the pool to cool off in between classes! 

The kids were busy once more on their creative writing project, as well as putting together their own ‘Place value’ board game to practice and play games; it comes with two spinners!

Garden time involved clearing space under our future gazebo; a place for the kids to enjoy some quiet creative time. 

The kids picked flowers to illustrate, dissect and label parts of the flower they chose. 

In sewing class, the kids started working on their redwood stuffy honoring their chosen nature name. 

Fort building is in the works in the Willows and the horse jumps/animal sanctuary the girls are working on, is busy during recesses.

**rakes! Two used rakes would be awesome! Having our class so close to the walnut tree has proven the need to take regularly as the droppings make a big mess! We have created our class jobs and “raking under walnut tree” is an important one.

Just a reminder to keep up with selling raffle tickets for our amazing school!! The kids love recording what they’ve brought in as we are trying to set a goal of raising $1000....and then raising that goal!!!

4th Week

Happy Sunday! I hope everyone is enjoying this great bonus weather! Should be lovely and on the warmer side this coming up week so please make sure your child brings swimwear and a towel for possibly our last week enjoying the pool.  

This past week we enjoyed our Harvest Celebration by harvesting potatoes and apples. The children prepped and made Roasted potato wedges as well as baked, sweetened  apples. Jane made challah bread with butternut squash in the dough. It’s fun doing math when you cook! 39 potatoes were harvest, how many potatoes for each friend? How many wedges did the whole class cut together? Adding teachers, how many wedges can each friend receive?  See what I mean? Fun! Even converting and creating a recipe that offers 3-4 servings could only be done with math. Later the kids wrote out their very own recipe for roasted potatoes with all they gathered from the experience. 

 “Still Life with Seckel Pears”

A fine tip sharpie was added to their supply bags for art class so kids practiced crosshatching and contour lines like pros. I picked Seckel pears from my tree at home for the kids to use as subjects.  Several attempts were made as the kids explored their light sources. Good light and shadows, good use of crosshatching. Once completed they enjoyed eating their own pear! 

Back to math. The kids were given “grocery ads” along with a budget to work with decimals. Did they stay within their means? Did they factor in sales? Did they shop wisely? Haha..

Story writing continues as well as their studies on flowers, the kids enjoyed a super fun pollinating game and took turns being flowers themselves.  Beautiful Bouquets were made to take home for the families. 

This week we learned a little bit of Chi Gong. I taught the kids “10,000 hands”. You visualize gathering energy with your 10,000 hands and pulling it through your center channel. It offers calm breathing and grounding energy. Your kid could demonstrate if you ask them! 

Drive For Schools! Sell those tickets to raise money for our school! It’s the best and easiest fundraiser.  Infinite gratitude to those who have  sold tickets this far. Go team! 

Still looking for two old, but sturdy rakes!! Our classroom is right next to our mighty walnut tree, that drops many leaves and pods that make a yellow mess if you step on them just right.
