Sixth week
Hello!
Data Unit
This week we started collecting and graphing data. Our first unit involved the circumstances of each students fascinating heads. With the info gathered the students discussed and learned how to find the minimum and maximum as well as the mode, median, range and mean.
Photosynthesis
In science this week the kids went for a tiny scavenger hunt for a beautiful leaf from a tree on campus. With their findings they learned what happens to the gorgeous leaves in the autumn. They conducted a test with their leaves by rubbing them on tissue paper and then soaking that paper in alcohol. This gave them an idea on how the leaf they chose changes in the autumn season.
Art
We enjoyed sharing what inspires us about the autumn season, besides Halloween (that’s next week!). The changing colors of leaves, pumpkins, Thanksgiving, cold weather, acorns, foxes and animals that prepare for hibernation, autumn colors, to name a few.
The students also practiced value with their favorite autumn colors. If different pressure is put on our colored pencils while drawing the artists can create 2-3 different shades of the same color, expanding our color choices to use.
Leadership
writing prompt of the day:
What would you do if you found a magic wand?
Our beautiful, artful stones are ready to be put in place around the flower beds in front of the gym! The kids carried and arranged their stones and completed on side with success. While working on this, we managed to dig up 22 more stones to beautify! As a class we decided to pass the project along to the other classes at Orchard, for a full school collective project. More on that soon!
Lamguage Arts
The creative stories are almost complete!! This week little buddies were chosen and next week our postal service will begin! The little red house on campus has been transformed into a school post office! Kids from other classes will be able to communicate and keep in touch with this new system. Formal letter writing will be practiced soon!
