Halloween week

Yay, what a fun and spooky week we had at school!

Pumpkin catapults and investigations

In science the kids partnered up to design their own pumpkin catapult! Once built to their best ability, the kids launched a few trials and measured the length of each try. That’s right, more data to play with!! Oh, and no, real pumpkins weren’t used for this experience. The kids used little candy pumpkins!

Investigations were made before and after their pumpkins were carved. Estimates were made about weight, how many seeds, circumferences, etc. After recording all their data gathered, the kids compared their data. When all the science stuff was collected, the kids enjoyed naming and carving their pumpkins. The seeds were collected and roasted for our Halloween celebration.

Art

The artists were introduced to oil pastels. With black paper as their canvas the kids enjoyed drawing wonky and spooky haunted houses.
Speaking of Art, the kids had a blast decorating our outdoor classroom with all kinds of scary props we had in storage. Red paint was requested from all angles!

Giants, Wizards and Elves

A super fun game the kids learned and want to play every chance they get! Have your child share the game with you!

Language Arts

With fun Halloween stationary, the kids began writing all their pen pals for the first time! They are all so excited to have letters delivered and more excited to receive. This will be a super fun activity for the kids to enjoy the rest of the school year. We are all looking forward to all the letters/ notes and exchanged art!

Halloween celebration

On Friday we had an all school Halloween parade where the students were able to show off their awesome costumes.
Our class enjoyed an awesome dance party as well as lots of treats shared by a few classmates. Thank you to those who brought in food to share. Our feast included: apple muffins, cupcakes, pumpkin seeds, ghost cookies, popcorn and homemade lemon verbena/mint/hibiscus iced tea.

Free drawing and reading time was enjoyed at the end of the day.
