April has been a productive month for the 5th and 6th grade! We have been busy getting ready for our Spring Concert to be held on June 8th, alongside the graduation ceremony. We are continuing to master the subtle nuances of swing rhythm as we rehearse our big ensemble piece, "Sing, Sing." We have also decided to undertake learning a swing dance as well. Several kids have decided to pair up and learn a swing dance with a partner. They seem quite enthusiastic about it and are becoming confident dancers to boot! The kids are polishing up their ensemble piece from Zimbabwe - which has 5 different parts that happen simultaneously - and the kids are seeming quite confident with the piece as a whole. I would say that they have successfully learned how to listen and play their own part alongside the other 4 parts and stay in time - a huge accomplishment! We have also been learning the song "Forever Young," a song by Rod Stewart that was inspired by the original "Forever Young" by Bob Dylan. We may be singing this at the Spring Concert as well. The 5th and 6th graders have genuinely been a wonderful group to work with and have emerged greatly in their musicality over the past school year.
