Garden

The big event in the garden this month was the Harvest Festival. All students harvested, minced, diced, and cooked countless veggies and fruits for our annual festival. The students displayed a tremendous amount of focused work to pull this off. And it was all possible because of the students continued work in the garden beds, beginning in our last school year. We continue to harvest beans, cabbage, chiles, kale, peppers, potatoes, tomatoes, squash (both summer and winter) for use in the kitchen for snacks and lunches. Some of the veggie varieties are dying out as we approach fall and winter. New plants going in are the cole crops, (broccoli, cabbage, kale, and collards), beets, garlic, onions, lettuce and radishes. Preparations for winter down time will begin soon.
