Circus and Drama

Just this week we have begun the process of producing our Winter Play. This year the play will be Robin Hood. Scripts should be coming home soon, once the challenging procedure of role selection is complete. Then it is a whirlwind to December 15th, the night of the performance in the gym. Believe it or not, this is an early start for us. In drama, we have been doing balance, trust, and creative movement exercises. In circus, we continue to develop our hand-eye coordination and motor skills. There is ample time during free choice for each student to pursue their own selection of apparatus, which gives them time to build confidence and esteem on something they are having success with. This aids them with tackling the equipment that is more difficult for them. Each student is in the process making a set of three juggling balls. The process begins with sewing felt fabric into a square shape, then stuffing it with bird seed, which rounds the ball into a round shape. For some students, sewing is a new process, and progress can be slow. This project may roll into the new year, with our upcoming play taking much of our class time.
