Science

February in Science was mostly dedicated to learning more about the scientific method/inquiry process, and preparing student projects for the Science Fair.

Around Valentine’s Day, students participated in fun lab activities that provided them with more practice gathering, interpreting, and graphing data.  The class then used those skills to create visual displays to present the findings from their own experiments.

The students worked very hard on their first science fair projects, and it was very impressive to see what they accomplished!  

Currently our class is in the middle of a weather unit.  Students are learning what meteorologists study when predicting the weather and the tools that they use.  Students are in the process of building their own working weather stations that they will then use to measure and predict the weather at Orchard.

Student lab groups built thermometers and observed the red liquid rise or fall in reaction to the heat from their hands, hot water, and cold water.
