April in the Art room is always special. It’s a time where we focus on art projects using recycled materials. This year we took it up a notch by making our own liquid watercolor paint!!! As I’ve mentioned before, we made paint out of dried out markers to extend their creative life. It was exciting!! We created all the colors of the rainbow as well as a miscellaneous, random color with all the colors combined that naturally made a muddy green/brown.  The paints came out amazingly well as we have the option to water down the tones created and make our paints last the rest of the school year....maybe even longer. Thanks to everyone the donated jars to store our paints properly.

The first project using these paints were portraits of Bears holding wither a heart (with a written message) or holding the Earth (with gentle care). These portraits were created on glossary pages from an old, vintage Atlas. I was hesitant cutting pages out, but with a few deep breaths, made the plunge.  It was worth it! These came out wonderfully!  

We traced our pencil lines with oil pastel before painting!  

Backgrounds were later added!  

Our next project took a few classes to complete. Remember when I was in need of newspaper? Welp, we made large, stuffed Fish made out of (and stuffed with) newspaper. These fish were drawn, cut out, painted, decorated with sharpies, oil pastels and sequins, stuffed AND THEN will be hung and on display at the May Faire! We are so excited to see our collective ocean above the cubbies soon!!!
