Games!

We have enjoyed playing language arts games the past few months in class.

Many thanks to Clover, Kat, and Matt who have helped to create the games the children excitedly play.

As a group, we learn specific reading skills in class, such as “silent e” endings or how to decode and write words with prefixes and suffixes. Later, we practice those skills with games in small groups. 

Now that there are enough games created, the children rotate through various language arts skills throughout the week. Each week, new games are introduced and new student groups are formed.

The phonics, fluency, and grammar games we play first preview and later reinforce the skills we are practicing in class. Additionally, the kids develop their cooperative learning skills as they play in partnerships or small groups.

Many of you already practice High Frequency Words at home with card games. Adding phonics, grammar, and fluency games may be an additional way for your child to practice their language arts skills at home. Most of the games are from Monday Morning Books. If you would ever like to borrow my reproducible teacher resource, just let me know! I am always happy to suggest games that address specific skills for your child to work on at home.
