Circus/Drama

Students were given both drama and circus classes (Tuesdays and Wednesdays) to work on their circus skills in preparation for the CircOrchard shows scheduled for March 20 – 23. This is much like in late November and December, when we weight the classes toward drama, in prep for the winter play.

We spend the first 10 minutes in class working on juggling 1-3 balls. This is a hard skill set to learn at this age, which affects the success rate, and thus overall effort. Everyone is advancing, though some with only baby steps. After juggling, we go off to free choice, with unicycling, stilt walking, walking globe, and static trapeze as the favorites in this class. Everyone is engaged and doing incredible work.

We have just begun the rehearsal process for CircOrchard. First, students pick which apparatus or skit they want to be in, then they create choreography, practice the routine, show it to the director, and incorporate changes for clarity, ease, and success.

Looking forward to the shows in late March.
