This month flew by! October is always filled with anticipation for Halloween celebrations, but we managed to do a lesson on cool vs warm colors by making our own grid for a canvas. The kids then drew an outline of something of their choice on the grid. This part was tricky! They had to either choose to draw their object in either warm or cool colors and the negative space the opposite. The intention was to color in each square on the grid a different shade of cool or warm colors. They did a great job!

Another important lesson shared was on Lines, Patterns and Shapes......all the variations, combinations and usage to create texture, tone and overall unique pieces of art.

After a solid practice with a homemade worksheet, I had the kids create a multilayered landscape with ink and chalk pastel. We began by creating a border around our canvas by taping down the perimeter with masking tape and carefully taking it off after the masterpieces were complete. This helps the viewer focus on the center of art piece, also gives the art a nice professional finish.  I had them fill in each layer with beautiful patterns and shapes with fine tip sharpies. To add color, I demonstrated how to blend different colors, how to simply dab in color in a few areas to create lighter tones and how to make bold and bright shades by filling in with more chalk. These turned out awesome!! Vibrant and sharp, yet soft and dreamy.
