Specific focus on the short o sound (ostrich, dog, etc) using books and games
Creation of a “the” book and a “see” book

Have your child sing one of our songs. Work together to write it down.
Make an "O Book" by taking pictures of, or drawing, objects that have both the short O (dog, ostrich) and the long O (hope, yo-yo). Print the pictures, and have your child write/dictate the words of the book.
Find /sh/ words in books
Highlighting “o” words and high frequency words
Playing “O is for Olives”
Reading “Yellow the Bracken” and below, putting the poem back in line order
Instead of line by line, students put “Five Little Pumpkins” in word order-tricky!
Phonemic Awareness “short o” cut and paste with a little “extra” writing/dictation
