 In Class Activities

We made sweet potato pie to contribute to our feast on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. Thanks to Clover, Shana, and Jessie for helping! And to those who shared supplies.

We compared two versions of the traditional folktale, Stone Soup.

We continue with phonics and HFW studies using poems and songs. We have used: Turkey Trot, Miss Mary Mack, Shivering Cold, Three Blind Mice, and Thanksgiving Time (that one included kid created choreography).

We have been focusing on words with sounds a, d, g, u     All but u is a “magic c” letter. This means you start a, d, and g with a c to make the lower case letter. This ensures good habits and avoids reversals

We have been reading phonics booklets to practice our vowels that we have studied so far: o, a, and u

We read Caps for Sale  whole group and in small groups.

We worked on nouns. We identified and labeled nouns in our recent poems Five Little Pumpkins and Shivering Cold and in Three Blind Mice.

In writing, we focused on Gratitude. We first brainstormed, then created a list, then used that information to write a paragraph detailing each child’s ideas on gratitude.

We shared buddy time with Kenza and the second graders. It was fun to be together, and sharing our number scrolls!

Prior to Thanksgiving, we read one of the Stone Soup versions in Roxaboxen, and enjoyed time in their created community.

At Home Activities

Continue nightly reading and HFW practice

Brightly , an online book and reading resource, has a great list of activities on their “December Reading Challenge” article

Ask your child to teach you one of our songs! Try to write them down, have your child be “in charge” of one word that appears repeatedly to write. Or have them write a whole line or more if you’re all up for it.
