Math
As I sit here going through all we have done since January (yes, it’s time to write evals again), I feel happy with all this class has accomplished. We have done Everyday Math lessons on coin value, time, patterns, even and odd numbers, addition and subtraction number models, and number sequence. Students have played whole class games, such as Monster Squeeze or Digits and Place. Together, we have practiced mental math with The Game of Pig, NIM, Shape Logic, and Money Logic. We have practiced fractions as part of a set by using our tea cups or our bodies, and practiced fractions as part of a whole by making waffle batter and eating and recording waffle fifths. Throughout, thanks to the flexibility of our school, I have had the option to switch activities if they do not suit the energy level of the group on a given day.
I am grateful to Leila for being an invaluable support to me every day and to Will, for helping weekly so that the students could have more individual attention. Our sharing circles have included so many smiles and love as the students shared compliments and appreciations, and sometimes…jokes.
