Happy Spring! April was all about Earth day, young activists and recycled art. We made recycled liquid watercolor paints out of old markers, printed with strips of cardboard as we learned about Piet Mondrian and made cute birds out of toilet paper rolls.

In Leadership we practiced gratitude for our Earth, for our moms, for the sprint time.

“We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children.”- Native American Proverb

May, Asian American Pacific Islander heritage month, we learned about the history of surfing (he’e nalu, wave sliding) and about the original wooden surfboards made by specific trees. We also spent a class learning about Japanese culture and highlighted the time in 1912 when Japan gave the US over 3,000 cherry trees as a symbol of friendship.
