Spanish with the Kindergarten class has been full of fun. We have practiced colors, and animal names and movements. We have learned with songs (“Red is Rojo”), games (“Tingo, Tingo, Tango”, “Luz rojo, luz verde”), books (Eric Carle’s “Oso Pardo” and “El artista que pintó un caballo azúl), among other impromptu words or phrases in Spanish.

We have also played a traditional game with a song, “A la Víbora de la mar” which you can find versions of on Youtube in case you want to practice the song and play when you have a few people to play with.

Often after we have done one of the above activities, the kids do some kind of art project relating to the activity in their journals. When I have to leave, Rosy continues with them until they are finished. This is a nice way to reinforce what we have learned, and eventually you will get to see the journals too.

Most recently I have gotten out the parachute (paracaída) and the kids love it. Vocabulary with games include colors, up, down ((arriba, abajo), switch or change (cambia), waves (olas), inside, outside (adentro, afuera), mushroom (hongo), shake (sacude)….and many more words that happen in the moment.
