Circus/Drama
January has arrived and the kindergarteners are now in drama/circus (Tuesday/Wednesdays) classes with the 1st graders two days a week, instead of once a week. Stilts and unicycle were introduced with great excitement, especially for the kindergarteners, being that this was their first exposure to these apparatus. Thank you to Alex Cartagena, David Dvorak, and Rick Vogel for helping get the K’s started on the stilts. Some students take to the stilts quite easily, and climb to higher levels early. Other students will try them and decide to get off almost immediately. All on their own time. There has been great success on the stilts for this class- a lot of esteems soaring.
The unicycle is another new apparatus that garners a fair amount of interest. This creature is much different. Some students can accomplish the stilts solo on the first day. Conquering the unicycle takes a huge amount of reps for success, sometimes taking a year plus. Just being able to sit on the seat, both feet on the pedals, can be quite a challenge. There has been some great achievements for a few students on the unicycle. Once again, this requires tremendous focus and commitment, so each baby step is actually a huge step.
We will begin working this week on the upcoming CircOrchard shows scheduled for March 20-23. Set your calendars and tell your friends.
