The month of October flew by! We filled up our art days with lessons on colors and patterns and shapes.

For color, the kids painted sweet rainbows with watercolor. Remembering the order of the rainbow can be tricky, but they all turned out wonderfully and uniquely.  They also painted freely with warm colors, blending and experimenting with red, orange and yellow.  They created another painting with cool colors. We will use these painted sheets of paper for a future project.

For lines, patterns and shapes: I had the kids fill in spaces of an autumn leaf with different variations. They then cut the leaf out and glued it on construction paper.

To further our understanding on using shapes and patterns to create texture and depth to their drawings, I had the kids draw Owls in the night. They used oil pastels on black paper.  Patterns in the sky, zig zag lines for feathers, circles for eyes, triangles for beaks....the possibilities are endless!
