Music
We started music with exciting explorations of pitch, beat, rhythm, dynamics, (soft, loud), tempo (slow, fast) and improvisation! Each class has given themselves a name and has been building a musical community. The Kindergarten and 1st Graders have danced to stories about sea turtles, bees and ecology of forests accompanied on my guitar. We have learned songs that compliment the stories, such as “Green Grass Grew,” and “Bee Bee.” We have explored solfege syllables with the Curwen hand symbols for mi, sol, la in the songs and the stick rhythm notations ta (quarter note) ti ti (8th notes) tiri tiri( 16th notes) and rest, in our songs after we have sung and/or danced them. Our latest dance game is a pentatonic scaled song, “Circle Round the Zero” where we will then learn other pentatonic (five tones, do, re mi, sol, la) scaled songs that we can then combine. We also played instruments in our last meeting together. Our discussions have taken us to students wanting to compose! First we get the tools and structures in place to do that!
