Science

For the beginning of the year, our focus in science has been mainly on familiarizing ourselves with different forms of measurement tools and how to use them as scientists. The class also discussed different fields of science and each student created their own “ology”.

In science class, students usually work in teams of four or with a partner. Our class has also been working through several team building challenges that help build communication and collaboration skills.

Beach Clean Up

After beach cleanup day, the students graphed the school’s findings, then identified areas of need and reflected on solutions for having less trash on our beaches. The students then made recycled paper and decorated it with flower petals and leaves that they gathered around campus.

Measuring Length

Measurement scavenger hunt- students searched the campus for objects that match a list of given lengths.
How Do I Measure Up Lab- Students measure themselves (ex. head circumference, arm length) at the beginning of the year, and compare it to the same measurements again in June.

Measuring Liquid Volume

Using different volume measurement tools, students strived to get just the right amount of each color into their test tubes. If they followed directions carefully, a rainbow appeared.
