Art
Welcome to the first blog post for the 2021/2022 school year! It feels so wonderful to have all the students come through the art space and share creative time together again.
With that said, as we dove into projects, we also spent the first week or so introducing all the art space provides!
We started the school year discussing and practicing the fundamentals of Line. Lines come in many forms and can add beautiful texture. A highlight was learning about cross contour lines and sketching out cool Portraits of their hand, appearing to look 3D as the cross contour gave them shape and form. Notes given in class along with examples and sketches go directly into their art journals to be used as future reference. Autumn and Halloween also provide a lot of inspiration so we’ve been enjoying all that this season entails.
It’s really exciting to let you know that we entered a Monster drawing contest held by the Watsonville Public Library! The students had the opportunity to enter by drawing their own monster as well as give it a name, habitat, size and share about their monsters diet and other fascinating facts! They were so imaginative, original and some, super funny! The winners will be announced soon and I will keep you all posted.
We’ve dabbled in some sewing, we’re reading Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and are currently working on our little production of POPCORN to perform at the Halloween party! More on Leadership class next time.
Please feel free to come visit the art room to see what we’re up to and/or to just say hi. I’m on campus Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. I have a few ideas for volunteer work for parent hours (after school hours and weekends) and will reach out soon. Thank you for always being there.

It’s going to be an amazing school year. I look forward to all the creations that will shine in our art space!
