LANGUAGE ARTS

Dear Orchard 4/5 Families,

Please see the enclosed fun packet materials for your child.  Each child has a manila folder with worksheets and a plastic bag with books. Please help protect the books by keeping them in the plastic bag when you are not using them.    When school resumes, please return all materials and classwork. We have a list of book assignments and the books can be identified by the purple dot on the back of the book.

Our goal is to have your child engage in Language Arts activities for about 1 hour or more a day.  Some of the activities included will require adult supervision or assistance.  The breakdown could look something like this - 30 minutes of reading, a quick break, 20 minutes of writing, and 10 minutes of word work.

Most of the activities provided are academic in nature.   We will be posting more hands-on activities and creative ideas on the blog soon.  April is Poetry month and the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day, so we have a lot to look forward to!

 Thank you for your patience.

4/5’s– Students reading and assignments vary.

4th graders: students are in the last stages of the Island of the Blue Dolphins Study.  In addition to a few writing response sheets, students are working on “2 questions – 2 answers.”  Students need to review assigned chapters below and write down 2 questions and 2 answers that will be used in our Island of The Blue Dolphins Jeopardy Game on enclosed index cards..  Some students chose to create a board game.  Since we are not able to meet in person, I am assigning students chapters to create one game of Jeopardy.  Our next step will be to create a board game if desired!
