First week
The first week of school was a great success! Our outdoor classroom immediately felt cozy and complete with the kids in it. We were very thankful the sky was blue and the air felt fresh.
We spent time getting to know our new space, our new classroom procedures, our classmates and acclimated to our surroundings with ease. We created our classroom rules together and the students hand sewn their own supply pouch for the school year. A visit to our library (located in the rug room) to check out books for silent reading time, was exciting....almost as exciting as getting a chance to swim in the pool everyday!
Yesterday we hiked up to the redwood grove to practice a little yoga, enjoyed a peaceful guided meditation, as well as a little art lesson on perception, and ended our visit with a picnic lunch.
Today was our first day responsible for Animal care. Every Monday and Friday mornings, the kids will start the day with feeding our Orchard animals and making sure their homes are clean and ready for the day. Today was also our first leadership class! We discussed the importance and joy to practice gratitude and to be a positive example and inspiration for everyone around us, including ourselves! We finished the week with our first Sewing elective where we experimented with embroidery and practiced appliqué.
