February in Science was mostly dedicated to learning more about the scientific method/inquiry process, and preparing student projects for the Science Fair.

Around Valentine’s Day, students participated in fun lab activities that provided them with more practice gathering, interpreting, and graphing data.  The class then used those skills to create visual displays to present the findings from their own experiments.

The students worked very hard on their experiments, and it was exciting to see the unique interests of each student portrayed in their projects!

Currently our class is discovering more about plate tectonics and how the Earth moves and changes (at about the same rate as our nails are growing).  Lab groups are designing skits to explain movement at the different types of plate boundaries, and what formations result from these movements. This will lead us into more discussions about earthquakes and fault lines as we prepare for our much anticipated trip to Point Reyes National Seashore next week!

The students worked very hard to contribute in their own way to the cost of their trip, and they had a very successful “Big Big Sale” and raffle.
