Ready for math!

Ready for math!

The fourth and fifth graders are off to a great start in math!  We began with revisiting and reviewing daily and weekly routines for the year from the quiet time activities that begin each class period to the daily mental math selections.

We played a variety of games to practice our logical thinking and number skills.  And began the month of October with the students preparing for the Harvest Festival. It’s been a tradition for years that the math classes contribute fresh apple juice to the festival. A part of this process is the Apple Investigation. The students chose an apple, made predictions about its circumference, weight, and possible ounces of juice and then figured the actuals.  The students recorded their data on a class chart allowing them to make observations and to figure the average for each category.  In addition, the students enjoyed making the apple juice for the Harvest Festival and the delicious gluten free apple crisp.
