It has been so fun to start a new session with this class. I have only had the Friday before Thanksgiving and the one after to be with them, so this is a short post. The first Friday we had fun recalling many things they had learned before. I really couldn’t believe all that they remembered and are excited about learning now. We brainstormed a list, and I couldn’t even keep up with all they wanted to know!!
We also watched the videos of their conversations last year. It was such an awesome time laughing, recalling, and feeling great about Spanish and being “bilingual”. Many of them wanted you to see them (they were posted on the blog at the end of last year).
Then I gave them a paper that had 17 names for popcorn in the different Spanish speaking countries on it. They chose their favorites, and then of course I brought some for us to eat….lots of fun. I hope the papers came home and were shared.
This past Friday I had a lot I could have done, but the first game I taught them, was what they wanted to do the whole time :) It is a traditional Latin game called La Pirinola (similar to Dreidel). If it didn’t come home, here is the paper that we cut out and used. They really implemented the Spanish vocabulary beautifully and we talked about how we could use it in other contexts. It was a blast, and they were creative in figuring out a better spinner other than a pencil through the middle. We used “frijoles” to play, and they received “gallets” at the end just because :) I hope they play with you all. See the last photo for vocabulary!
This is the vocabulary that they used so enthusiastically. I told them I would post it, so they could refer to it.
