Wrapped up our Spooky Stories with an Authors’ Fair

Word Work focus-

Nouns: common vs. proper nouns, irregular plural spelling patterns (ex: y to ies such as puppy to puppies)

Writing Focus-

We wrote letters to veterans in honor of Veterans Day: Review of 5 parts of a friendly letter

Readers Theater-

We rehearsed and re-enacted Stone Soup by Jon Muth. This is an annual tradition that the oldest class undertakes.

Literature Study-

We have begun reading Hatchet by Gary Paulson. We are creating a reading study guide as we read; and doing writing responses to deepen our connection and understanding of the text.

We also have begun our cursive studies. The students are very excited to learn and practice Language Arts skills using cursive! Check out this video from Handwriting Without Tears that helps address the “why cursive?” question. While I find the video a bit biased towards vertical cursive, it does address the many benefits of learning cursive in our digital age.

Read ahead in Hatchet. I have extra copies if you and your child would like to borrow one.
