We are learning about the pentatonic scale, which notes make up that scale, and songs that use the pentatonic (do re mi sol la) tone set, such as Alabama Gal. We are also learning all the degrees of the diatonic scale (do re mi fa sol la ti do) and how to sing them consecutively using our hand symbols. We are identifying songs that use specific tones, such as high do.  Students have just started to practice rhythm identification with instruments in centers, and are starting to explore the ideas for notating & performing their own rhythmic compositions in small groups using the heart charts.
