Zoologists in the House!- Animal Reports!

This month in the yurt, Lisa’s group of 2nd and 3rd graders completed their first research report. Each child chose their animal and received accessible resources from the library and the Epic Books website (highly recommend as you can search according to reading level). The first few days, all we did was read, examine pictures and watched videos all about our individual animals. Over the next days, they completed their pre-writing step: taking notes on a graphic organizer according to topics like Appearance, Habitat, Diet, Predators, Families, Parts of and Fun Facts. Once they extracted all the info they needed from the books, they began writing sentences using their notes for their first draft. Tovia and I helped proofread besides each child and they made their final revisions. They each had a beautiful book about their animals with hand-drawn illustrations and printed photographs. They were very proud of their accomplishments! We even got to share them with our classmates in Joy’s class. (Not Pictured: Fiona who fawned over DEER! )

Aria really took her LION research to the next level! Roar!!

Layla was thrilled with her book on HORSES!

Anton read and gathered more information from a nature video on WOLVES.

Sol fell in love with SLOTHS.

Fox and Eliana worked collaboratively on, you guessed it, FOXES!
