WRITING- The kids work in their journals responding to one of the 30 fun prompts inside. This one happened to be about what they look for in a friend. One sentence at a time and soon we have a little paragraph!

NOVEL STUDY- When a child has reading fluency mastered, it is time to explore chapter book novels. Children chose between two books, “A Boy Called BAT” by Elana Kay Arnold, about a boy on the autism spectrum who loves animals, including the baby skunk in his care or," “ I Survived the Sinking of the Titanic” by Lauren Tarshis. We’ve begun discussions about plot and character development and ponder what we would do similar situations. By responding through respectful group discussions, writing and art, we learn how to contribute in a community of readers.

RESEARCH- What do you do when you have questions about things in the world? Research! Here we have two students who are delving deeper researching more about the Titanic and the care of kits (skunks).
