Lisa's Class: It's all about WORDS!
While Joy is guiding the students in how to best decode words this month, we are having a lot of fun examining words, as a whole. During the past couple of weeks, we examined the categories of words in our language; the Noun Family (article, noun, adjectives) and Verb Family (verbs, adverbs) with lots of fun games and sorting. We also played with compound words- butter/fly, cup/cake, sun/flower…you get the gist. They commented how two words “get married” and make a new word. Cute!
Following these lessons and practice, we now are exploring Alphabetizing words and giving them order. Using 10-12 moveable cards, each team helps one another put them in order, reads them aloud and then writes them in their word study journal. This bridged to the next lessons in how to use the dictionary, which you will see in the photos. I am seeing the kids now using dictionaries to look up unknown words. It’s awesome!
Each of the classes will contribute to an A-Z book on “Foods We Love” class book to share with our buddies. Stay tuned!
