The third-fourth grade students first assignment this year was to write letters to their future selves. These letters will be kept and opened by the students at the end of the year to compare their predictions with their real life experiences of the year.
Following this, we started building a foundation for reading and spelling study. The students have worked in literacy centers practicing alphabetizing, word family patterns, sentence structure, and the introduction of syllable rules. They have also begun a writing folder and have written and/or used a storyboard to tell a story. They have used magnetic poetry to create and copy original poems. We are reading The Whipping Boy by Sid Fliechman and recording literature responses to the story.
