Leadership
it’s an honor to have the 3rd/4th grade class for Leadership. In this class we will focus on mindfulness, campus support (trash and recycling duties) and community outreach.
We have begun our mornings together with light stretches and creative movement. After increasing our heart rates, getting warmed up and releasing any last bit of morning yaya’s, the kids find themselves in a comfortable, seated position to practice centering. The kids are also welcomed to lie down in Savasana (corpse pose) at this time if it helps them focus on their breath. We take deep breaths together and then at their own natural pace while I lead them through a sweet guided meditation. The intention is to set a gentle tone for the day to talk about potential ways to raise awareness and support for local charities. This year the kids have chosen to raise money and efforts to help the homeless and local animal shelters.
This month we are discussing and practicing Gratitude and Affirmations. The kids have created a special jar for each! The gratitude jar is a special place to write down and collect what the kids are thankful for. We give to the gratitude jar. The affirmation jar is a place where the kids can write down and collect positive messages to share with classmates. We receive from the Affirmation jar. These jars are in the ART room and I invite the families to visit and partake in this practice too :) I hope the kids find this practice of positive exchange uplifting and inspiring.
The kids do a great job helping each other collect all the trash and recycling on campus. In pairs, they quickly head to their assigned location to collect and throw away and gather back just in time for recess. In a few months we will focus on beautifying and stocking our little free library by the bridge. Please let me know if you have any children’s books to donate.
here we are at our “round” table. We use a “talking shell” to know who’s turn it is to speak and who we should be listening to.
