Language Arts

We have been practicing abbreviations, specifically the months. This gears us up for properly writing the date (example-Today is Mon., Oct. 2nd, 2017).

We added the abbreviated months to our watercolored perpetual calendar, and surveyed our peers for what month they were born.

We ended the week by beginning to examine the California Native Americans. We used a map and an article to introduce how important California geography was to the variety of tribes in our great state. We highlighted the vocabulary word dialect, specifically how it relates to California Natives. The kids used dialect to practice:

-spelling it using phonics

-predicting its meaning using context clues

-drawing a quick sketch of its meaning

-looking up the definition in the dictionary
