Language Arts

As part of our literature study students performed The Little Red Hen.  We learned about story elements, including setting, characters, problem, solution and the moral of the story. Students explored character development, created props, learned basic theater terms, and practiced working together as a cast.

As a culminating event, students baked bread using the Little Red Hen recipe! Thank you Jane!

A video of each cast is in the works and will be posted soon:-)

Pet Monsters and a scary retelling of In The Dark, Dark Wood

Students enjoyed creating a back story for their pet monsters and designing and building a 3D version of them.

Their Pet Monster was the surprise “punch-line” ending of their reading of The Dark, Dark Wood story. These were read one-on-one readings to Orchard students on Halloween Day. Scary voices, black robes, flashlights, the loft space, and the tee-pee added to the drama and suspense. If you haven’t heard your child’s story, please have them read it to you - if you dare!
