Math
Hi, welcome back from spring break. So nice to see the students again this week. First graders have been rather sparse in the zoom meetings. Please reach out if your student needs a different type of connection and know that we are doing movement, academics, and social connection during our classes. This week, Marla joined me and we did some skip counting with movements that crossed the body midlines as well as some rhythms on our bodies. We also shared and measured our wheat grass and went over odd and even numbers. To download curriculum materials that were sent home this week, click here. There are many opportunities to extend the activities in the curriculum packet. Questions to ask, ways to keep going with the material. You can scan and email work, take pictures and send, or return when you pick up packets.
2nd graders, we had a hardcore zoom meeting in which you all attended and participated, hurray! We measured our wheat grass or planted it in some cases, or are waiting for it to sprout. The main theme was doubles. I read a story called the 512 ants on Sullivan Street and students wrote down the numbers they heard and then discovered the doubling pattern. Included in their packet is a game called doubles or nothing, which I explained to them. We went through the packet and I am hoping for them to create a set of pentominoes this week. Please have them color them and store them in the envelope I provided. We then, did a series of grueling exercises 19 times each, Max suggested burpees! I think parents had some fun watching me labor. To download materials sent home this week, click here.
