LANGUAGE ARTS

Dear Orchard 1/2 Families,

Please see the enclosed fun packet materials for your child.  Each child has a manila folder with worksheets and a plastic bag with books. Please help protect the books by keeping them in the plastic bag when you are not using them.  When school resumes, please return all materials and classwork. We have a list of book assignments and all books can be identified by the purple dot on the back of the book.

Our goal is to have your child engage in Language Arts activities for about 1 hour or more a day.  Some of the activities included will require adult supervision or assistance.  The breakdown could look something like this - 30 minutes of reading, a quick break, 20 minutes of writing, and 10 minutes of word work.

Most of these activities are academic in nature.   We will be posting more hands- on activities and creative ideas on the blog soon. April is Poetry month and the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day, so we have a lot to look forward to!

Thank you for your patience.

1/2’s – Students’ reading and writing assignments will vary.

Book bag - some students are reading Cookies Week, Alphabet books and/or short vowel a.  Some students are reading frog and/or rabbits.  In addition, some students will be reading template (shapes and My Favorite Things).

For writing, some students will be practicing letters, days of the week, and writing their first and last names.  All students will be working on Dolch sight words (5 per week; see enclosed directions and materials).  For students reading about frogs/rabbits, there is a writing worksheet.

If you have any questions, feel free to email, text or call us at

Kind regards,

Valerie & Lisa
