Family Heritage Celebration ~ March 2nd thru March 11th. Please sign up if you would like to attend your child’s presentation and need to specify a time.  Sign-ups are located above the cubbies. Feel free to bring a family recipe to share on the day your child presents. We are look forward to sharing our stories and celebrating our families together!

Chinese New Year – students learned about the origins of the Chinese Zodiac identifying their Chinese Zodiac year, animal and associated characteristics.  Students then made Happy New Year cards to give to friends or family using Chinese characters and symbols.

American Heritage, Flag and symbols – students explored the meaning of the Pledge of Allegiance and learned to recite it using sign language. We are exploring our country’s history and heritage through American symbols including the American Flag, the Bald Eagle, the Statue of Liberty and our currency.

February is Black History month and we are celebrating by highlighting African American challenges and achievements. We are focusing on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Rosa Parks, Wilma Rudolph and Jackie Robinson.  Students participated in a mock relay run.

Save The Date! Thursday, March 5th 9:30 -11:30. The 1/2 class will be going on an Aptos Community Walking Tour. We will start on the green at the New Leaf Building with Historian John Biddle and then visit the Post Office and a few other historical landmarks.
