November and December

After our exciting bat unit in October, the students have been learning more about animal life cycles and adaptations. The class compared bats to owls and other nocturnal animals, and learned about some of the unique adaptations that allow animals to be out in the night.

Students created their own owl viewing masks to help them see the world how an owl would. With tunnel vision, we practice turning our heads (not our eyes) to see in different directions.

Students became more familiar with how and what owls eat by dissecting the pellets of bones and fur that they spit out. After sorting and identifying rodent bones, students also worked to reassemble the skeletons that they found inside the pellets.
