Summer postcard writing and drawing 

ABC order practice 

Letter placement and orientation using magnets and on paper  

Student created movements and song for our ABC banner to build phonic awareness  

Days of the week using American Sign Langauge and initial letter reading practice  

“Sounds in our name” for phonemic awareness  

Introduction of High Frequency Words (HFW) through songs and flash cards. Students created “the” books of items from the classroom. 

For reading comprehension, we are going over the term “plot” and have studied this concept in the stories Never Ride your Elephant to School and The Little Red Hen 

In addition to “plot”, students have compared and contrasted two different Johnny Appleseed story books  

Introduced the letter “c” (like cat) and played c games
