The 2nd graders are having a wonderful time exploring singing games, such as a guessing game from Africa called "Zinya Maredu" and "In and Out the Bonnie Bluebells" which helps to welcome in spring.  The 2nd graders are nailing down their ensemble piece called "Cookie Jar."  They are learning their Orff parts with ease and they are even working a little bit of swing into their piece, as it has a jazzy feel.  We are also busy setting nursery rhymes to a 12 bar blues format!

We spent a bit of time learning about Harriet Tubman, Henry "Box" Brown, and Martin Luther King Jr.  The kids were fascinated and we did a bunch of singing games and songs that have African-American roots.

We have spent some time singing songs about love, such as "There's a Little Wheel Turning in my Heart" (traditional) and "All I Really Need" (Raffi) which we are learning the sign language to as well.
