Science

In second grade science, we spent our first month getting to know each other, and each student created an “About Me” lizard or frog to contribute to our class tree. I have been enjoying getting to know all the students and I am enjoying all their unique insights that they bring to our class each day!

In reflection of our Beach Clean Up Day, students learned about paper recycling and made their own recycled paper.  

Also this month, students have begun learning about ecosystems and the organisms found in them.  We are currently taking a closer look at plants. Students dissected flowers while discovering the different parts of plants, and developed dance moves with a partner for one of the verses from the song Roots, Stems, Leaves. Coming up, students will be planting seeds that they find in our local environment and exploring plant adaptations.

Students also participated in an engineering challenge to build a 3 story structure out of jelly beans and toothpicks.  Structures were then tested to see how many books they could support.
