Spanish Class

Hola Padres,

It has been so much fun working with both of the Kinder and First grade classes together. What a lot of happy energy ;) I haven't done this in the past, but Rosy has been a wonderful help with this new formation.

We have kept things moving with songs, games, books and activities related to the books. The first day we practiced greetings (Hola, Adios, Buenos Dias, Buenas Noches). On their folders they Have (Yo Soy....I am....) and then they filled in their name.

After that we learned "A la Vîbora de la Mar" which you can look up on Youtube if you want to hear it and see how we play. I also read 'Say Hola to Spanish' by Susan Middleton Elya. The kids are always very enthusiastic about repeating words and sharing what they know. That is so wonderful when it comes to learning another language. We have also briefly played around with the alphabet and noticed similarities and differences between English and Spanish.

The past few weeks we have focused on colors with games and books followed by an activity. Yesterday, we read 'Siesta'  by Ginger Foglesong Guy and then 'Oso Pardo, Oso Pardo' by Bill Martin Jr.

If you would like to incorporate more Spanish at home, the website Spanishplayground.net has great ideas.
