October was packed! We had a great time preparing for two of our biggest events we have in the school year, our harvest festival and Halloween party. We also enjoyed learning about Dia de Los Muertos and making art to display for the schools Ofrenda. This class made really cool and colorful wind socks with their impression of a Calavera. Lots of steps were involved, including adding bling with sequins and spent two classes creating. This went along with learning all about color: primary, secondary, warm and cool, rainbow. They worked in their art journals and enjoyed free drawing only using primary colors as well as just secondary colors.

In Leadership class we practice daily gratitudes, like what are we grateful for about our friends and Halloween. We read a super awesome book called The Dunderheads, about a class of friends that work together on a special mission and lean on all their specific, unique gifts to get the job done. Everyone is special and everyone is needed when your friends are in need. The class was also introduced to Give or Get. This practice invited the students to circle up and when it’s their turn, they get to choose if they want to get a compliment from a friend of their choice or to give a compliment to someone in class. This lets the students express things they appreciate about each other and to recognize how good it feels to receive and to give. We will practice this exercise as often as possible.
