What fun! A place to get dirty and make anything you want! Soon the children understand that building with clay isn’t easy without knowing the 3 basic techniques: pinch pot, coil and slab. One technique is explored per class to make forms of their choice. Eventually these techniques are combined to learn the process of scoring (scratching) and applying slip for a strong bond. 

After the projects are dry and bisque fired the next project is glazing. Underglaze ceramic colors are painted on the surface to enhance the form. We use a minimum of 3 colors per project. After the color is dry, we paint a clear glaze over the colors. If a flat color is desired then no glaze is applied. How to mix colors, how much water to use and how to hold the brush is part of the experience. 

The kindergarten class successfully completed imaginary environments, cups, vases and indescribables (my favorites). The final projects will be a joy to see!
